Greatest Football Catch Ever – Chris Moore, WWU (1992)
April 14th, 2010 by napa high
This series of clips shows wwu’s Chris Moore (80) making perhaps the greatest acrobatic catch in a 1992 football game against the University of Puget Sound Loggers. UPDATE: This was ranked as the #24 ‘Best Damn Top 50 Spectacular Football Plays’ by FOX Sports. See the article here: msn.foxsports.com Chris (a graduate of Issaquah High School in Issaquah, WA) caught this pass from quarterback Jason Stiles (14). The camerman was WWU film student Rick Medved, who was in the right place at the right time to capture the catch on film. Interestingly, Medved almost wasn’t at this game, or any other. He had approached me about making a highlight film about the Viking football team in fall camp, but I already had somebody to do the job. Head Coach Rob Smith insisted I give him an opportunity (all it would cost us was a bus seat to our games, anyway). So, Rick was at every game, and in the right place at the right time. Chris won the ESPY in 1992 for ‘College Football Play of the Year’, beating out Antonio Langham (Alabama) and Reggie Brooks (Notre Dame). If you watch the entire clip, watch Joe Theismann’s reaction to naming Chris the winner. Just my opinion, but ever since that moment, I’ve always thought Theismann was a schmuck. I mean, get excited, already. Rick didn’t even know he had captured the catch on film. Once we found it, Rick, Chris and I plotted to get it on “America’s Funniest Home Videos”, thinking it was a shoe-in to win the 0000 first prize. But, the WWU SID …

the juicy part is 1:49 – 1:56
it’s kind of an unnecessarily lengthy video

It would be incomplete, he didn’t have control over the ball when he went out of bounds. And in my opinion it wasn’t even a good catch… It looked amazing tho.

kirkkrisko sweet, reminds me of me in college – just kidding. I’m 5 6 and I can double pump dunk. I took the famous workout that real nba players use. For more info about the training program, go to – (50 inch vertical [dot] com)

kirkkrisko, is 5 7, white and can dunk. Wtf you mean white guys can t jump? It s (just|simply|all)# about the training people do to get their jump to be high enough to dunk. For me, I just used the training program over at (50 inch vertical [dot] com)

kirkkrisko, That’s why I like basketball, along with all the ankle breakers. If you can’t dunk yet, you need to start practicing. I highly advise you to try the one I’m using – 50 inch vertical (dot) com – I m 5 7 and I can dunk!

That was a football players reaction not an accident you probably only said that cuz you know you would never be able to make a catch anywhere close to being as cool as that.

kirkkrisko, every now and then I force myself to remind myself of just what it was like just before I can easily dunk in bball. Right after I practiced the training course program at (50 inch vertical [dot] com) – my game has been improving alot – I’m no longer on the bench! #key1#

WOW what a first catch and a run
April 14th, 2010 at 4:52 am
because american football players would rather run behind the guy for a block rather than take the hit and pass it
April 14th, 2010 at 4:52 am
good point, .. why don’t the players use side passes, especially if their arms are free in a tackle, why not offload it to the guy next to him?
April 14th, 2010 at 4:52 am
@smoku46 yes doug drop kicked it, but was it not an extra point? it’s not like he tried for a field goal. sure i guess you’re right, you COULD do it. but you’ll get much more accuracy by kicking it off of the ground with a holder.
April 14th, 2010 at 4:52 am
@KYOOBED; dauntedpigeon; So then how the hell did Doug Flutie score points from the drop kick ? By the way side/back passess and drop kicks appear to be THE SAME as in rugby so its not you cant do them its just you need to know how to do it. Im suprised that you guys presumably from america dont know american football rules.

@Dthorn912 no he wasn’t i just watched it last night. they tried 200 some times and didn’t get it. it was a 1 in 143,000,000,000 catch i think they said.
April 14th, 2010 at 4:52 am
@smoku46 what are you talking about? unless you’re talking about punting, you can’t just drop the ball and kick it. it would most likely give away possesion of the ball, and that isn’t really what you want.
It’s not soccer or rugby.
April 14th, 2010 at 4:52 am
Because you don’t get points for that, it’s not like Rugby.
April 14th, 2010 at 4:52 am
In American Football why does the players so rarely use side passes and in-game kicks on goal (the ones where you drop the ball and kick it in the same time) ?
April 14th, 2010 at 4:52 am
i cud do that no hands
April 14th, 2010 at 4:52 am
He was able to make that catch again on Sports Science
April 14th, 2010 at 4:52 am
@kanbar82 trolling fail. We all know football is harder hitting, it’s been proved. Least we have pads inbetween our bodies, your just bare.
April 14th, 2010 at 4:52 am
2 words: GAY SPORT!!! try rugby………..
April 14th, 2010 at 4:52 am
Rock on Joe Theismann.
April 14th, 2010 at 4:52 am
yuh that WAS PURE luck
April 14th, 2010 at 4:52 am
This catch was luck no skill involved try this catch its even better and has skills involved.
April 14th, 2010 at 4:52 am
Chuck Norris would have roundhouse kicked every single player on the field FIRST. Then he would have caught the ball normally, without the acrobatics and run it in for a 78 point touchdown…
April 14th, 2010 at 4:52 am
! agree! : -) It is awesome to watch.
