After nearly 50 years and fifteen state champion basketball teams, Booker T. Washington is saying goodbye to its field house that holds a special place in the hearts of Hornets fans and graduates. Monday afternoon, April 19, 2010, classes were let out early and students and faculty gave the field house its farewell rally. Through the years, star basketball players like Wayman Tisdale, Ryan Humphrey and Etan Thomas have played inside the field house. Thirteen boys basketball teams have won the state title, including this season in 2010. In addition, the 2008 and 2009 girls team won the state championship. The field house will be demolished this summer in preparation for a new, more modern facility. It’s funded through a voter-approved bond measure. -KTUL Tulsa
