In an effort to get back in the Hampton Roads recruiting hunt, Virginia’s new football coach Mike London is bringing his entire team to Norfolk on Saturday for a scrimmage at Forman Field. This is not a scrimmage against Old Dominion it is an intra-squad scrimmage to show off the Cavaliers. Virginia Tech has dominated division one A recruiting in our area for years, London, who is from Hampton, realizes how good our high school football is and told me he is reaching out to area coaches, fans and alumni this weekend.

Greece Athena High School basketball coach Jim Johnson decided to add mcelwain to the roster for the team’s February 16 game against Spencerport High School, so mcelwain could be given a jersey and sit on the bench for the team’s last home game of the season. Although the game between Greece Athena and Spencerport was for a division title, Johnson planned to allow mcelwain to play a few minutes if Greece Athena got a comfortable lead. With four minutes left in the game, Athena Greece had a double-digit lead, so Johnson decided let mcelwain play out the last minutes of the game. When teammates first passed the ball to mcelwain he attempted a three-point shot and missed. mcelwain got a second chance to score with a lay-up which he also missed. mcelwain was “as hot as a pistol,” shooting six three-pointers and one two-point shot, before the game ended. The final score was Greece Athena 79, Spencerport 43. As soon as the final buzzer rang, fans from the stands stormed the court in celebration.

New Tech High School is a model for high school education developed in the mid 1990′s in Napa Valley by local business leaders. It changes how high school is taught and expands the high school experience to provide students with 21st century skills and knowledge. Marylands only statewide high school football all star game. The game will feature the best senior all stars from public and private schools in the state of Maryland. The Game will consist of 90 players split on 2 different regional teams. The DC regional team will consist of players from Montgomery, Prince Georges, Calvert, St..Marys and Charles counties. The Baltimore regional teams will consist of players from Anne Arundel, Howard, Baltimore County, Baltimore City. Frederick, Washington, Alleghany, Cecil, Harford, Carroll, Garrett and the Eastern Shore.
